The problem
Where plumbing calls go missing
What happens
The job goes to whoever answers first, and so does the customer's next job.
- You are under a sink or in a trench when the phone rings
- The call back slips to smoko, then to the end of the day
- Numbers end up on scraps of paper somewhere in the ute
- Someone with water through the ceiling rings the next plumber on Google
How it feels
Calling back at night eats into your evening, and you never know which missed call was the big job.
Why it is wrong
A good plumber should not lose work because they were busy doing good work.
Your guide
We get it. You are a plumber, not a call centre.
We built Mick for the calls plumbers get: burst pipes, no hot water, blocked drains and quotes. It asks the questions you would ask and knows which calls cannot wait.
- ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified
- Tells every caller it is AI
- Platform hosted in Australian regions
- Built in Melbourne

When it is urgent
When a call cannot wait
Pick what the caller says to see what Mick does with it.
Asks if water is still running and off at the meter, then marks it urgent
Urgent
Marks it urgent and takes the address and access first
Urgent
Marks it urgent, notes the room, and is set up to warn the caller off wet power points
Urgent
Marks it urgent and asks if it is inside or out of the overflow gully
Urgent
Urgent or next day, as you choose, with the system type taken down
Urgent
Takes it down as a call back for your job list
Does not take it as a job. Is set up to tell the caller to leave, avoid switches and ring the gas emergency line, or 000
Safety first
What Mick will not do
- Mick does not price a job nobody has seen.
- Mick never quotes more than the call-out fee and rates you set.
- Mick does not promise an arrival time you have not set.
- Mick does not diagnose gas, electrical or structural problems.

- MickThanks for calling Northside Plumbing. You are speaking with Mick, the AI receptionist. The plumbers are out on jobs, so I will take the details and get this to them. What is going on?
- CallerThere is water pouring out under the house. I think a pipe has burst.
- MickThanks. Is the water still running now?
- CallerYes. I can hear it.
- MickBefore you go and deal with it, what suburb are you in, and what is the street?
- CallerCoburg. Rennie Street.
- MickDo you know where your water meter is? The tap on the meter turns the water off to the house.
- CallerIt is out the front, near the letterbox. I will go and turn it.
- MickGood. Two quick questions and I will let you go. Do you own the house, or are you renting?
- CallerWe own it.
- MickWill someone be home to let the plumber in, and is there anything they should know, like a dog or a locked gate?
- CallerI am home all afternoon. There is a dog, but she is friendly.

Plumber answering service FAQs
Will my customers know they are talking to AI?
Yes. Our Acceptable Use Policy requires every agent to say it is AI at the start of every call and to tell callers when calls are recorded, so Mick opens every call by saying it is the plumbing business's AI receptionist.
Will it sound robotic?
You choose Mick's voice and hear it before it takes a real call. In the free Starter trial you can ring Mick in your browser and play a customer with a burst pipe.
Can it tell callers my call-out fee?
Yes, if you give it your figures. Mick tells callers your call-out fee and after-hours rate, and says the plumber will price the job on site.
What happens if someone smells gas?
Mick is not an emergency service. It is set up to tell the caller to leave the house and ring the gas emergency line, or 000 if anyone is in danger. It may not catch every emergency, so keep those numbers on your website too.
Does it work with my job management software?
Mick books into Google Calendar, Outlook, Calendly, Cal.com or GoHighLevel, and can send every call result to your CRM or job software by webhook. Using something else? Book a demo and we will tell you what connects today.
How is it different from a human answering service?
A general answering service takes a name, a number and a reason. Mick asks your plumbing questions on every call, and you get the recording and transcript as well.
Stay on the tools. Mick will take the phone.
